Well it's the start of a New Year!  A great time to start thinking about how we are doing in our walk with Jesus Christ!  This year I will be leading us in a new direction.

After much prayer and study, I believe that it is time to move in the direction of study.......study of God's Word, study of good books that God has placed in our midst, and a time of reflection on where we each, individually, find God leading us.  Because in the midst of all of this, I believe that we will find a plan that God has in store for us as a church family.  If we look at all that is happening around us, folks losing jobs, parents and spouses dying, children and parents struggling with issues at school and home, drug and alcohol addictions and the beat goes on.......

Are we really prepared to help those in need, especially our own?

So here is the plan.  We started a Bible Study on the Gospel of John on January 5th.  We meet at the church every Thursday from 6:30-7:30 PM.

I will also be offering a financial mentoring program for those who are struggling with their finances or would just like to learn how to manage better.  To make this work, we'll need some folks who are good at managing their finances to be willing to work alongside of someone who wants to learn.

Then Kim and I will be leading a book study on the Book "The Resolution."  Kim will lead the gals and I will lead the guys as we take a look at what it means to resolve to live a Christian life.  I also plan to "Blog" weekly on the book.  So check out the newsletter for further details and let me know if you would like to be included in any of our studies.

Bethany United Methodist Church, located at 570 W. Bakersville-Edie Road, high in the Laurel Mountains, just below Hidden Valley and Seven Springs Ski Resorts.  Our worship service is a blended service with a little contemporary mixed with traditional liturgy. We are an active outgoing church family looking for ways to help our neighbors, both here in Somerset as well as out in the world.  The Bethany congregation is currently at a membership of 180, and growing with an average of 70 worshippers every week.

The Mission Statement

Bethany Church is a place where we actively worship and praise God, uplifting and energizing each other through Christian love, fellowship, education and acceptance! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to witness God’s message!

Our Church & Conference Plan for Ministry

“The Believe Again” Plan for Ministry was adopted by all of us at our last Annual Conference.  This plan was developed so that we as a congregation might find our way back to our mission and purpose as Christian churches in The United Methodist Church.  This is the Plan:

Mission

To provide leadership, connection, and resourcesto make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Vision

To ignite and sustain a passionate, spiritual connectionwith Christ among all people in Western Pennsylvania.

Core Value

Our core value is love.  We love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength and our neighbors as ourselves.  This value is commanded by Jesus, inspired by our Wesleyan heritage including to spread scriptural holiness over the land, and witnessed through our integrity, accountability and inclusiveness.
